POSITION: CONTROLLER

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct financial operations, and prepare or direct preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial position forecasts, annual budget, and the quarterly and annual tax returns.

  1. Develop and maintain a system of financial controls, guidelines, and procedures for activities, such as budget administration, cash and credit management, and accounting, that ensure financial information is accurate and complete.
  2. Manage all daily accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll and employee benefit programs, including professional liability insurance for physicians and mid-level professionals, monitor financial activities, such as cash flow and reserve levels, and arrange for timely payment of business expenses.
  3. Monitor and ensure appropriate reimbursement from third party payers, identify third party payer over payments, and provide key financial and clinical data highlighting business, operational and third party payer reimbursement issues and opportunities requiring management attention.
  4. Respond to third party payer over payment audits and assist with appealing adverse third party payer payment determinations.
  5. Provide direction and assistance to other departments regarding accounting and budgeting policies and procedures and efficient control and utilization of financial resources.
  6. Oversee external annual audit of financial statements.
  7. Monitor and ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  8. Supervise the work of 1 to 2 medical billing staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Either (1) a Master’s Degree and 3 years of experience, or (2) a Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years of experience. Degree must be in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field, or an equivalent, and experience must as an Accountant, Controller, or related occupation.
  • Knowledge of the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • At least two (2) years of related experience in the healthcare industry.
